Our verdict

What we like

  • 5% back on ten of the most-used shopping, food and ride apps, with no points to convert
  • Annual fee is easy to waive for anyone spending about ₹8,500 a month
  • Quarterly ₹1,000 voucher is a solid bonus for heavy spenders

Watch out for

  • 5% cashback is capped at ₹1,000 per billing cycle
  • Nothing back on fuel, rent, wallet loads, EMI or government payments
  • Applicants must be 40 or younger

The HDFC Millennia Credit Card is built for people whose spending happens mostly on apps.‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌ Instead of reward points with confusing conversion rates, it pays straight cashback: 5% on ten popular platforms and 1% on most other spends, credited as statement balance. For a typical urban user who orders food, shops online and books cabs every week, it is one of the easiest cards in India to get real value from.

How the cashback works

Where you spendCashbackCap
Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy, Zomato, Uber, Myntra, Sony LIV, Tata CLiQ, BookMyShow, Cult.fit5%₹1,000 per billing cycle
All other eligible spends1%₹1,000 per billing cycle
Quarterly milestone: ₹1,00,000 spent in a calendar quarter₹1,000 gift voucherOnce per quarter

Earns nothing on: fuel, EMI transactions (for the 5% rate), wallet loads, rent payments and government-related transactions.

What you would actually earn

Say you spend ₹15,000 a month across the partner apps and another ₹10,000 on groceries, bills and shopping elsewhere. That earns about ₹750 + ₹100 = ₹850 a month, or roughly ₹10,200 a year. That spending level also adds up to ₹3 lakh a year, comfortably above the ₹1 lakh needed to waive the annual fee, so the card effectively costs you nothing after the first year.

The 5% bucket maxes out once you spend ₹20,000 a month on the partner apps. Beyond that, a second card is a better home for the extra spending.

Who should get it, and who shouldn’t

Get it if you spend ₹8,000–₹20,000 a month on Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy, Zomato or the other partner apps and want simple cashback without tracking points.

Skip it if your biggest expense is fuel, rent or travel, or if you are over 40. A fuel or travel card will return more, and the age limit rules you out.‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‌

Frequently asked questions

Is the HDFC Millennia Credit Card lifetime free?

No. It has a ₹1,000 + GST joining fee and the same annual fee, but the annual fee is waived if you spend ₹1,00,000 or more in the year before renewal.

How much cashback can I earn in a month?

Up to ₹1,000 from the 5% category (that is ₹20,000 of spending on the partner apps) and up to ₹1,000 from the 1% category, so a maximum of ₹2,000 per billing cycle.

Which merchants earn 5% cashback?

Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy, Zomato, Uber, Myntra, Sony LIV, Tata CLiQ, BookMyShow and Cult.fit, on non-EMI transactions.

What income do I need for HDFC Millennia?

Salaried applicants need around ₹35,000 a month. Self-employed applicants need an ITR above ₹6 lakh a year. A credit score of 700+ is preferred.

Do EMI or fuel transactions earn cashback?

No. EMI transactions do not earn the 5% rate, and fuel, wallet loads, rent and government payments are excluded from the 1% rate too. Fuel does get a 1% surcharge waiver on ₹400–₹5,000 transactions.
