Our verdict

What we like

  • Very high ₹4,000 monthly cap for online spending
  • Unlimited 0.75% on offline and travel, with no cap
  • Welcome points offset the joining fee

Watch out for

  • The first ₹5,000 online each month earns only 2%
  • Needs ₹50,000 a month income and a 736+ score
  • ₹4 lakh spend needed to waive the annual fee

The Axis Cashback Credit Card is designed for people who spend a lot online. Instead of a flat rate, it uses tiers: 2% on your first ₹5,000 of online spend each month, 5% on the next ₹35,000 and 7% above ₹40,000, up to ₹4,000 a month. Offline and travel spends earn an unlimited 0.75%.

How the cashback works

SpendCashbackCap
Online: first ₹5,000 a month2%Combined online cap of ₹4,000 a month
Online: next ₹35,0005%
Online: above ₹40,0007%
Offline and travel spends0.75%Unlimited
Online utility bills0.5%₹100 a month

Good to know: because the rate rises with your spend, the effective cashback is lower for light users. At ₹10,000 online a month, you earn ₹350, an effective 3.5%.

What you would actually earn

Say you spend ₹20,000 a month online and ₹10,000 offline. Online cashback is ₹100 (2% of ₹5,000) + ₹750 (5% of ₹15,000) = ₹850, plus ₹75 offline, for ₹925 a month or about ₹11,100 a year. That is ₹3.6 lakh a year, just short of the ₹4 lakh waiver, so you would pay the ₹1,000 + GST fee.

Heavy spenders get much more. At ₹50,000 online a month, cashback is ₹100 + ₹1,750 + ₹700 = ₹2,550. The ₹4,000 monthly cap is reached at roughly ₹70,700 of online spend.

The table shows why this card rewards concentration. Putting all your online spending, including food delivery, travel bookings and shopping, on this one card pushes you into the higher tiers faster.

You earn 5,000 EDGE Reward Points, worth ₹1,000, on your first transaction within 30 days of card issuance. That covers the joining fee in the first year.

Who should get it, and who shouldn’t

Get it if you spend ₹20,000 or more online every month across shopping, food delivery and subscriptions, and want a card whose rewards grow with that spending.

Skip it if your online spend is under ₹10,000 a month. The 2% first tier makes the card ordinary at low spends, and a flat-rate cashback card will do better.
