If you fill up at IndianOil pumps, the HDFC Bank IndianOil Credit Card is an easy way to cut your fuel bill. It returns 5% as Fuel Points on IndianOil fuel, groceries and bill payments, and those points can be redeemed for up to 50 litres of free fuel a year. The fee is a modest ₹500 + GST and is waived once you spend ₹50,000 in a year.
How the Fuel Points work
| Where you spend | What you earn |
|---|---|
| IndianOil fuel outlets | 5% as Fuel Points |
| Groceries | 5% as Fuel Points |
| Bill payments (online and in store) | 5% as Fuel Points |
| All other spends, including UPI and retail | 1 Fuel Point per ₹150 |
Caps apply: Fuel Points carry monthly earning limits, for example up to 250 Fuel Points a month on fuel in the first 6 months and 150 a month after that. Points stay valid for 2 years.
What you would actually earn
Say you spend ₹3,000 a month on fuel at IndianOil, ₹5,000 on groceries and ₹2,000 on bills. In the first six months your fuel spend earns about 150 Fuel Points a month, inside the 250-point cap. After six months the fuel cap drops to 150, so ₹3,000 a month of fuel still fits. Groceries and bills add their own 5% on top, subject to their caps.
The ₹10,000 a month in this example also adds up to ₹1.2 lakh a year, well past the ₹50,000 needed to waive the annual fee.
Other benefits
- Complimentary IndianOil XTRAREWARDS Program membership, used to redeem your points.
- 1% fuel surcharge waiver on fuel spends above ₹400, up to ₹250 per statement cycle.
- Fuel Points stay valid for 2 years, so there is no rush to redeem.
Getting the most from Fuel Points
- Route your grocery and utility bills through the card, since they earn the same 5% as fuel.
- Redeem points for fuel at IndianOil outlets through the XTRAREWARDS programme.
- Keep an eye on the monthly caps so you don’t overspend in a category that has stopped earning.

Who should get it, and who shouldn’t
Get it if you drive regularly, have an IndianOil pump nearby and want a cheap first card that also rewards groceries and bills.
Skip it if you usually fuel up at BPCL or HPCL pumps, or if you spend a lot outside fuel, groceries and bills. The 1-point-per-₹150 rate on everything else is low.
